Beyond the Couch

Trauma, flight and migration have become signatures of our time.  Possibly never before in history have these many people been afflicted by persecution, war, and poverty in their native country, and have had to migrate as is the case today.” (Elton et al, 2023).  We cannot succeed as psychoanalysts if we insulate ourselves from so much suffering in our collective. Take as our focus people at the social margins, people impacted by material poverty, social exclusion, exploitation and who have suffered more than their share of disease and death.

How can psychoanalysis move beyond the couch and help our troubled world?

This project aims to address this question by making psychoanalytic practice more accessible to those who have been rendered invisible through marginalistisation, displacement
